Spectacular 240 kpc double-sided relativistic jets in a spiral-hosted narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxy

چکیده

Narrow-line Seyfert 1 (NLS1) galaxies are a peculiar subclass of active galactic nuclei (AGN). They have demonstrated that the presence relativistic jets in an AGN is not strictly related to its radio-loudness, black hole mass, or host galaxy type. Here we present remarkable example radio-quiet NLS1, 6dFGS gJ035432.8-134008 (J0354-1340). In our Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array observations at 5.5 GHz source shows bright core with flat spectral index, and extended emission corresponding very elongated jets. These largest double-sided radio found date deprojected linear size almost 250 kpc. We also analysed near-infrared optical images obtained by Magellan Baade European Southern Observatory New Technology Telescope. By means photometric decomposition colour maps, determined J0354-1340 hosted spiral/disk galaxy. Fully evolved traditionally been associated high-mass elliptical hosting most massive holes, but results confirm less holes spiral can launch sustain powerful jets, implying launching governed factors other than previously believed.

Spectacular Narrow - Line Seyfert 1 Galaxy with Young Post - starburst

We analyze the physical properties of post-starburst AGN SDSS J085338.27+033246.1 according to its optical spectrum and discuss its implications on AGN's evolution. The spectra PCA method is developed to extract emission lines and absorption features from the total light spectrum. The emission-line analysis indicates that the object can be classified as a NLS1 with FeII/Hβ B = 2.4 ± 0.2, large ...

Relativistic jets in narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxies. New discoveries and open questions

Before the launch of the Fermi satellite only two classes of AGNs were known to produce relativistic jets and thus emit up to the γ-ray energy range: blazars and radio galaxies, both hosted in giant elliptical galaxies. The first four years of observations by the Large Area Telescope on board Fermi confirmed that these two are the most numerous classes of identified sources in the extragalactic...

Discovery of a Narrow-Line Seyfert 1 galaxy

We have discovered a Narrow-Line Seyfert 1 (NLS1) galaxy and identified it with an ultrasoft X-ray source (RX 215319-1514) detected with ROSAT . We present its X-ray and optical spectral characteristics. Its redshift is found to be 0.0778±0.0002. Its optical spectrum shows fairly strong Fe II emission lines, and its X-ray spectrum has an extremely steep power-law index of Γ ≥4, making it an ext...

Are Seyfert Narrow Line Regions Powered by Radio Jets?

We argue that the narrow line regions of Seyfert galaxies are powered by the transport of energy and momentum by the radio-emitting jets. This implies that the ratio of the radio power to jet energy flux is much smaller than is usually assumed for radio galaxies. This can be partially attributed to the smaller ages (∼ 106 yrs) of Seyferts compared to radio galaxies but one also requires that ei...

The Narrow-line Region of Seyfert Galaxies: Narrow-line Seyfert 1s versus Broad-line Seyfert 1s

It is known that the spectral energy distribution (SED) of the nuclear radiation of narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxies (NLS1s) has different shapes with respect to that of ordinary broad-line Seyfert 1 galaxies (BLS1s), particularly in wavelengths of X-ray. This may cause some differences in the ionization degree and the temperature of gas in narrow-line regions (NLRs) between NLS1s and BLS1s. This...
